HAVING TROUBLE REMOVING TRUSTED ROOT CERTIFICATES

How to Remove Root Certificates from the Trusted Root Store In Windows 2000, point to Start, and then click Run. In the Run dialog box, in the Open box, type MMC, and then click OK. The Microsoft Management Console (MMC) appears. In the MMC, on the Console menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in, and then click Add. In the Add Standalone Snap-in dialog box, click Certificates, and then click Add. In the Certificates snap-in dialog box, click Computer Account, and then click Next. In the Select Computer dialog box, enter the name of the computer for the snap-in to manage. Click Finish, click Close, and then click OK. Expand the Certificates node. Expand Trusted Root Certification Authorities. Click Certificates. The details pane appears, showing all of the root CA certificates that are currently trusted. Delete the root CA certificates that you do not trust.

Cannot access some sites, Amazon, Ebay, etc.

It is suspected that your Hosts file has been hacked.  Do the following which should fix the problem:

1. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc directory.
2. Right-click on the HOSTS file and choose Open.
3. Use Notepad to open this file.
4. If there are lines that look like the following you must comment them out or delete them:
    127.0.0.1    www.amazon.com
    127.0.0.1    www.ebay.com
5. To comment these out, simply place a # before each of those lines.
6. Test and resume normal surfing.

Reset Warning in Outlook Express - Free Up Disk Space

Look for this key in the Registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{GUID}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0

Double click the Compact Check Count

Select the Base option for Decimal and change the value to 0

This should change both the Hexadecimal and decimal values to zero.

Close the Registry.

In the right pane, click UpperFilters.



Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.

On the Edit menu, click Delete.

When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

In the right pane, click LowerFilters.

On the Edit menu, click Delete.

When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

Exit Registry Editor.

Restart the computer.
